Harness Foundations

This unit standard is the minimum requirement to work safely in a harness.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the hazards associated with wearing a safety harness and associated equipment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety harnesses and associated systems and equipment
  • Check and fit a safety harness system
  • Use a safety harness system where a fall hazard exists at height
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the rescue plan to be implemented in the event of a fall.

To ensure the most effective learning experience in our courses, students need to meet the following criteria:

  • English Language Proficiency: Adequate proficiency in written and oral English is essential, equivalent to NCEA level 1 (year 11) or IELTS 5.5 or higher. 

  • Physical Fitness for Working at Heights: Given the high-risk nature of working at heights, it’s crucial for students to have the necessary physical strength, balance, and coordination to complete all tasks.

  • Weight Restrictions:  Due to equipment load limits, participants must weigh under 140kg.

  • Medical Considerations: If you have any injuries or medical conditions that might impact your ability to participate fully, please reach out to us beforehand. 

  • Course Refund Policy: We encourage all prospective participants to review our Terms and Conditions carefully, as we do not issue refunds for our courses.

For a successful on-site private course, we need:

  1. Spacious Training Area: Adequate room for practical exercises, with space for participants to safely work with partners on the ground.
  2. Practical Component: Access to a compliant structure that allows for safe demonstration of working at heights (at a minimum height of 2 meters) is required. The structure must be able to accommodate two students working safely at height and comply with all relevant standards.

Develop a comprehensive understanding of basic height safety practices and equipment in our Working at Heights Basic course, tailored for foundational skills in secure operations.

A current heights safety certificate or refresher certificate stating you have completed unit standards 23229, 15757, 25045.  The certificate must be no older than 2 years and 3 months.  This must be presented to PracMed NZ admin team prior to the course (unless a current student). 

Your certificate will state the unit standards you are refreshing.
